Applied AI, games and experimental software.
F51 Labs is an independent lab in Montréal. It builds applied AI, games, research tools and software, and writes down what each one actually does — including the parts that do not work yet.
The work, at the moment: MIKE, a local-first bilingual voice agent for Québec businesses, in supervised pilot; Star Swarm, an arcade game built with Python and raylib; research on inference and model editing, published with a status attached; and R1 Console, the studio pipeline that produced the game assets.
Every project on this site carries its state — released, pilot, active, proven, in research — and the limits are written next to the claims. Where a number exists, it came from a measurement. Where it does not, the page says so.
The lab is run by Marco Barreto, a Brazilian in Montréal. He came back to machine learning at 51, and the research is published with a DOI. The Darwin-X paper.
