Evidence file for the published works of F51 Labs / Marco Barreto: two books, one essay and one paper. Every field was read from a real file on disk or from a public page fetched on 2026-10-03. Nothing is inferred, estimated or invented; anything that could not be confirmed is listed under missing[] instead of being presented as verified. This file is the index across publications — the paper's full evidence (claims, sources, limitations) lives in content/evidence/darwin-x.json and is not duplicated here.

Talking to the Future

A practical guide for adults 50+ who want to use AI with confidence, in their own words. Covers asking well, everyday life (health, money, creativity, family), safety and scams, and using AI to write a memoir and the family archive. Includes 50 ready-to-use prompts, a 30-day plan and a plain-language glossary. The cover image is AI-generated and is disclosed as such in the book's metadata notes.

Final edition (v3 FINAL: PDF 150 pages + EPUB + cover) distributed free on f51labs.com. Store submission through Draft2Digital was not done yet as of 2026-10-03 — the book's own READ-ME lists the D2D account, the tax form and the payment method as still missing.

proves

  • Long-form writing at book length: a complete 150-page PDF, plus an EPUB of the same final text
  • Practical application rather than theory: Appendix B carries 50 ready-to-use prompts, Appendix A a 22-word glossary
  • The served file is the real master: the PDF on the site is byte-identical to the FINAL master on the Desktop
  • Book production end to end: manuscript, cover, EPUB, PDF and store metadata all exist

verified

  • PDF opened on disk: 150 pages (pypdfium2); text read on pages 2, 3 and 129
  • SHA-256 of the served PDF equals the FINAL master on the Desktop (6AE7E36E…8B4AF1)
  • EPUB present and well formed (opened with zipfile and ebooklib)
  • The Desktop READ-ME carries the book's metadata fields used for Draft2Digital

The Singularity Horizon

A Brazilian engineer in Montreal builds an intelligence and must decide what it is — tool, son, or monster. Told across a decade of ordinary life: school runs, hospital nights, a barbecue, a funeral, a marriage holding itself together. The English edition has 34 chapters and 50,181 words (counted 2026-10-03 over the master EPUB: whitespace-separated tokens with at least one letter or digit); the Portuguese original exists chapter by chapter in the working tree.

English edition released through Draft2Digital. The Portuguese edition is the author's original text and is not published.

proves

  • Long-form fiction: a 34-chapter novel, 50,181 words in the English edition (scripted count over the master EPUB, 2026-10-03)
  • Two-language work: Portuguese original plus a revised English edition — the book's READ-ME records 118 fidelity corrections against the Portuguese
  • An adversarial revision process kept on disk: pre-revision drafts (_antes-revisao, _antes-revisao2, _revisao-en, _revisao-en2) sit next to the final text
  • Distribution through a real channel: a live Draft2Digital universal book link

verified

  • EPUB extracted on disk: 34 chapter files (cap_00 to cap_33) plus cover.xhtml and capa.jpg
  • Word count re-measured on 2026-10-03 over the master EPUB (752,084 B): every XHTML document parsed, tags stripped, entities decoded, then whitespace-separated tokens containing at least one letter or digit → 50,181 words (the 34 chapter files alone: 50,086). The earlier published 50,589 was reproducible from no file on disk by the methods tried, and was replaced by this dated count.
  • Preview pages produced by printing the real EPUB chapters through headless Chrome (the EPUB's own CSS), then rendering the resulting PDF — the text and layout are the book's
  • The universal link https://books2read.com/u/mgVR7z returns HTTP 200 and its page metadata reads 'The Singularity Horizon by marco barreto'

The American Table

An essay on US tariffs, debt and the dollar, built on a falsifiable hypothesis: American external policy is the partial execution of a published strategy (Miran, November 2024) that carries a contradiction known since 1960. It sets two constraints — the savings-investment identity and the debt-dynamics equation — then scores seven predictions against August 2026 data: two confirmed, one partial, four failing. Conclusion: the coercive instruments work, the economic ones do not, and a state in that position increases the dose of what it can command.

proves

  • Analytical writing with a method: explicit hypothesis, two named constraints, a seven-item prediction scoreboard with the verdicts attached, and a source list split into primary documents, analysis and theory
  • Bilingual publication: the same essay written in English and in Portuguese, both readable
  • Independent distribution without a publisher: LinkedIn article plus a public repository and GitHub Pages site
  • Sources cited to primary documents (CBO February 2026 baseline, the Supreme Court ruling, the Treasury buyback announcement, the Canadian PM statement)

Refuse, Don't Report: Three Integrity Gates for Self-Modifying ML Systems

Instrumented ML systems notice anomalies but emit output anyway: guardrails invalidate an A/B test after the fact, provenance tools compare hashes only afterwards, vector stores reindex after an encoder swap. The paper proposes three gates that decline to emit instead — a memory component that rejects snapshots with digest mismatches or differing key-encoders, a transplant ledger that turns down weight records without a provenance certificate or measured drift, and an ablation harness that produces no artifact when its arms diverge. Motivated by eight experiments across two days on a 1.7B-parameter model that reported success through checks that could not fail; the gates are then exercised (certified self-reassembly at 0.0 logit error over 219 tensors; a cross-lineage FFN graft that fails to beat a norm-matched noise arm, 11.2166 vs 11.2163), and the failures are attributed to addressability, not mechanism.
